Trip at a glance
Three geographic circuits, so the trip does not repeatedly cross the same roads.
Hoysala + sunset
Belur → Belavadi → Halebidu → Hirekolale → Chikkamagaluru night.
Main mountain day
Mullayanagiri → Seethalayyanagiri → Baba Budangiri → Manikyadhara → Kemmangundi → Hebbe → Kalhatti.
Western Ghats + return
Rani Jhari → Mudigere/Kottigehara → optional Devaramane → back near the homestay by evening.
Reach Chikkamagaluru / homestay
Friends arrive independently via KSRTC bus stand. Bags, regroup, breakfast and fuel.
Leave for Belur
Do not let the arrival phase expand too far into the day.
Belur — Chennakeshava Temple
Allow time for the temple, sculptures and courtyard.
Lunch / snacks
Keep this quick because the circuit still has two heritage stops.
Belavadi — Veeranarayana Temple
Shorter heritage stop.
Halebidu — Hoysaleshwara Temple
Main heritage stop after Belur.
Return toward Chikkamagaluru
Coffee/snack en route.
Hirekolale Lake
Sunset / evening scenery if weather permits.
Town dinner + optional night outing
Keep this flexible: cafés, dinner, relaxed town ride.
Wake + prepare
Water, snacks, rain gear, charged phones/power bank.
Leave homestay
Early start protects your Mullayanagiri morning pass window.
Mullayanagiri Peak
Summit, temple, viewpoints and photos.
Seethalayyanagiri
Quick viewpoint/stop on descent.
Ride toward Baba Budangiri
Allow real mountain-road time; do not plan this as a tiny hop.
Baba Budangiri / Dattatreya Peetha
Explore and move on before the day starts slipping.
Manikyadhara Falls
Short stop.
Breakfast / tea
Keep it efficient.
Ride toward Kemmangundi
Mountain-road buffer is important here.
Hebbe Falls excursion
Jeep + walk. This is the day's major time commitment.
Kemmangundi
Gardens / viewpoint if time remains.
Kalhatti Falls
Quick final attraction before the return.
Return to Chikkamagaluru
Do not chase another distant attraction after this.
Dinner / optional town night
Only if everyone still has energy.
Breakfast + leave
Earlier is better because the weather can worsen later in the day.
Rani Jhari View Point
Park safely and walk/trek to the viewpoint. Stay on the designated approach/trail.
Kottigehara / Mudigere side
Food + coffee break.
Devaramane — conditional
Do only if local road conditions are good after checking locally.
Lunch
Start the return rather than adding another major attraction.
Return toward Chikkamagaluru
Protect the bus-day buffer.
Back at homestay
Bags, shower, change and bus preparation.
Optional local evening
Only if bus timing allows: café, town or a very short nearby stop.
Near homestay / KSRTC area
Hard deadline. Friends should not still be on a distant route.
Trip logistics
Kept separate from sightseeing so the main itinerary stays clean.
Your arrival
- Target departure from Kinnigoli: ~4:00 AM, Oct 2.
- Target Chikkamagaluru arrival: ~8:30 AM, with traffic/road conditions as the variable.
- Go directly to the homestay at 8Q5C+F82, Chikkamagaluru, Karnataka 577101.
- Do not build the itinerary around everyone arriving together.
Friends' arrival
- Friends meet at the KSRTC bus stand.
- They reach the homestay independently.
- All sightseeing begins after everyone has regrouped.
- Oct 4 evening: prioritize getting them back near the bus stand.
Weather & contingency rules
The plan is deliberately flexible because hill weather can change quickly.
Light rain
Continue scenic/heritage stops. Use rain protection and slow down on mountain roads.
Heavy rain / lightning
Drop exposed viewpoints and waterfalls. Do not wait at cliff-edge viewpoints or push mountain riding after dark.
Road/access issue
Use the day's backup stop instead of trying to force the original route. Protect the next major circuit.
Carry this
A practical checklist for three long bike days.
Non-negotiable timing rules
| Rule | Why |
|---|---|
| Oct 2 leave sightseeing by ~9:15 AM | Preserves the full Belur–Belavadi–Halebidu circuit. |
| Oct 3 start ~5:15 AM | Protects the Mullayanagiri morning access window. |
| Oct 3 don't stack every trek | Hebbe itself can consume several hours. |
| Oct 4 start early | Rani Jhari is far enough away that a late start eats the bus buffer. |
| Oct 4 back around 4:30–5 PM | Friends need time for bags, food and the KSRTC bus. |
| No aggressive night mountain riding | Wet roads, fog and wildlife/visibility make the optional evening stops less important than a safe return. |
